“Israel’s Tuscany” is what many people call the Galilee region of Northern Israel. The area is a unique combination of natural landscapes, forests and mountains, a rich history dating back over 6000 years, cultural diversity and mystical serenity. The Galilee is the preferred place for many Israeli’s who want to take a weekend break and has many hotels and boarding houses. Galilee hotels include a wide variety of establishments, from luxurious 5 star hotels to small boutique hotels and bed and breakfast establishments.

So much to see, so much to do

The Galilee offers visitors a huge variety of options for relaxation and enjoyment. For up to date information, the reception staff or the concierge at all Galilee hotels will be able to give you all the information you need.

Amongst the many sites that are a “must” during your stay is the Sea of Galilee which has great historical and religious significance to both Jews and Christians. For the Jews, it was, many centuries in the past, a center for Jewish learning. The whole of the Galilee area is steeped in an atmosphere of mysticism and dotted with the graves of long dead but ever present Jewish scholars. For Christians, the Sea of Galilee is the place where Jesus performed many of his miracles and preached his gospels and the lake is surrounded by many fine churches and important religious sites.

Places to relax in

If you are looking for something a bit more laid back and “old world” - then you should take a look at the area around Rosh Pina and Safed. Set high up in the Galilee hills, these two small towns both have unique characteristics that will draw you to them and are the perfect place to start your exploration of this magical area.

Rosh Pina

Rosh Pina is one of the first Jewish settlements in modern Israel and was founded in 1882 by 30 families from Romania that came to farm the land and begin a new life. This small town played a special role in the development of modern Israel. Today the town is a magical place to stay and visit. The original buildings and roads have been faithfully reconstructed and refurbished and the area is a Mecca for many artists and craftsmen. The area has many excellent gourmet restaurants and some of the finest boutique Galilee hotels.

Safed

An ancient town that traces its roots back to the time of the Old Testament. Today the town, set into the side of Mount Cna’an, is a center for Jewish mysticism and the Kabbalah but also has an amazing artist’s quarter. Ask at the desk of whichever of Safed’s Galilee hotels you are staying at for recommendations about what to see and do.

Hatzor HaGlilit

Hatzor is a “newcomer” to the scene and was established in 1953, just four years after the State of Israel. Today Hatzor is a bustling development town with a population of some 9000 people. The town is named after Tel Hatzor, a nearby archeological site that in 2005 was granted UNESCO World Heritage Site status. Also close to the town are the tombs of Honi the Circle-Maker and his two grandsons, Abba Hilkiyah and Hanan HaNihba. They were reputed to have the power to bring rain through the strength of their prayers.

There is so much to see and do in the Galilee, that it would need an entire book to describe everything. Staff at all Galilee hotels will be able to provide you with all you need to know to make your stay enjoyable.
